If you're about to upsize the home of your feathered friends, there are plenty of things to take into consideration when choosing the most suitable size. Experienced bird keepers will already have a good idea of how much space they need for their birds – but if you're new to bird keeping, ask the breeder you're purchasing the birds from.

You'll also need to take into consideration the space you have available for the aviary. Do you want to wake to the sound of chirping birds? You might – but your neighbours might not! Sunlight is something you need to think about too. Birds like to have a little sun but if the only space you have available is in the hot afternoon sun, you might need to provide some additional shelter. Wind can be a problem in some areas, so if you get regular strong wind from a particular direction, take that into consideration when deciding on the aviary's position.
