Your car is an expensive piece of machinery and can suffer severe damage when left to the harsh weather day in and day out. And it’s not just the weather that can damage your car exterior and interior - bird droppings, tree branches, dirt and dust all take their toll.
Most new homes have built-in garages, but older style homes did not. If a garage is out of reach financially or you are pushed for space, you can still protect your car with a carport. You can buy various canopies, shades and car covers but they won’t stand up to some of the harsher conditions the weather can dish out. Of course, as a temporary measure they are better than nothing.
If you want to protect your car (or truck or boat for that matter) and you can’t quite stretch to a garage, your solution will be a carport. Your ABSCO carport is a freestanding structure, made of Zincalume or Colorbond which make for a long lasting structure. It does not have sides but will provide overhead protection for your vehicle. They are available in either single or double size.
What is Zincalume? Zincalume is a steel product that has a zinc/aluminium alloy coating to give it up to 4 times the life of galvanized steel. Developed in 1976 by Australian company BlueScope Steel it is strong and durable, is corrosion resistant, flexible and easy to maintain. It even stands up to hail impact.
Colorbond was also developed by BlueScope Steel in 1966. It is reliable, long lasting pre-painted steel that is oven-baked to resist peeling, flaking and blistering in the harsh Australian sun. As the name implies, Colorbond steel comes in a wide range of designer colours so there is bound to be something that fits in with the colour scheme of your home.
The ABSCO carport kits come with everything you will need to install your carport, including all down pipes and gutters, all fittings and slab attachments, Engineer plans for submission for council approval and a 12 month warranty.
They are quick and easy to construct and come with either your basic skillion roof or with a gable roof. Your car could be under cover before you know it.
There is virtually no maintenance required. However, if drought conditions exist or you live in a coastal area, you should just give the roof a hose down every 6 months
As finances allow you could put lattice on the sides and back and either paint it to match or contrast the colour of the Colorbond itself or grow some climbers to make an attractive, colourful home for your car that will also provide some side protection from the elements.
If you want to provide your car with some security as well, build your front fence across the front of your property with a tilt door across the front of your carport. From the street, it will look like a full garage and give the added benefit of securing the front of your property and your car within.
